“ All of Humanity’s Problems stem from mans inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

-Blaise Pascal 1654

Flowers and Cars is presence. During my first few years out of high school I started to struggle with depression and anxiety. Overwhelmed with pressure from society I started to tune everything out, in turn only making things worse for me. Something needed to change , a paradigm shift was crucial. That’s when the light shinned down and I was struck with the idea of photography. I wish I could pinpoint what exactly made me think photos , personally I believe it was a sign from God.

Fast forward a couple more years after some personal failures in photography and my relationships I found myself in the same position mentally, struggling with my mental health , extremely confused on what my life would consist of. Luckily through that time I had become aware of some knowledge that will always serve me, and that’s the power of believing in myself. Even when nobody can see what it is i’m chasing I know i’m going to get it, so I picked my head up and started looking for new avenues.

That’s when the idea hit. Going through my archives I noticed a theme, lots of flowers and lots of cars. Living in Santa Barbara CA, you are bound to see a nice car and a beautiful set of flowers at least once a day. In pursing this at first as a small zine project I quickly realized this can be something much bigger, pushing out to people the concept of being present in the moment, something we all struggle with. Through film photography Flowers & Cars immerses you into the “now”. It’s deeper than Flowers & Cars, it’s the symbol’s to remind you of something greater. Something unique. Something divine.
